The Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, Bishop of Cæsarea in Cappadocia from 370 to 379, is said to have been created when St. Basil noticed the slothfulness and degeneracy of people, how they were wearied by the length of the liturgy, so he shortened it in order to cure their sloth.
