About Us

Image

Here at St. John's, some of us were born into Orthodox Christianity and its traditions; others have converted. Some of us were born in the US; others have immigrated. Many of us have been baptized; others are catechumens, receiving instruction with the goal of being baptized; and others are curious visitors. As a parish, we welcome all, wherever they may be on their spiritual journey.

Below the Familiar Faces section, you'll find basic information on the tenets of Orthodox Christianity.

Core Tenets of Orthodoxy

Incarnation of Jesus Christ

Divinity is united with humanity, meaning Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man, without confusion or division.

Scriptures

Scriptures are the written witness to the revelation of God. They contain the Divine Word and serve as a guide to faith and salvation, interpreted within the context of the Church's living tradition.

Tradition

Holy traditions are celebrated in the Eucharist, taught by the Holy Fathers, glorified by the Saints, expressed in prayer, Hymns and Icons, and lived in every Orthodox Parish.

Councils and Creed

The Councils and Creed proclaim the doctrines of the Orthodox Church and protect from heresy that which the Church has always believed and taught.
